A CUTTING EDGE CMOS VOLUME!!

Are you a professional or student that works with complementary metal oxide semiconductors (CMOSs)? If you are, then this book is for you. Author Rasoul Dehghani, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that provides important details and design methodologies for different architectures of single-ended op amps.

Author Dehghani, begins by introducing the main op amp parameters that a have significant impact on the behavior of an analog system where an op amp has been exploited. Next, the author briefly describes the main sequence of steps that are followed in the fabrication of an MOS transistor. Then, he first analyzes a source-coupled circuit as a differential voltage-to-current converter and then deals with the CMOS differential amplifier in which a current mirror circuit is employed as an active load for the source-coupled pair. In addition, the author deals with the analysis and design of several op amps, including two-stage, telescope cascode and a particular configuration of it known as folded-cascode, and current mirror structure. He continues by outlining the remarkable advantages of fully differential op amps compared to their single-ended alternative. The author then discusses the different structures that are usually used as the output stage of an op amp. Finally, the author analyzes several special architectures of CMOS voltage and current reference circuits.

This most excellent book also introduces different structures of bandgap voltage reference generators. In addition, this great book also looked at a large number of topics that were associated- and/or in conjunction with the CMOS output stages.

Invaluable radiographic reference!

Although the title of this book sounds extremely dry, unapproachable, and cumbersome, this book is a well-organized compilation of every type of unusual looking radiograph for every part of the human body. In my job as an Army physical therapist, I commonly have to screen plain radiographs. This reference has been invaluable to myself and others that work in my clinic, especially when evaluating foot and ankle films. There are several (more than a dozen) accessory bones that may be present, and these are all very well mapped out, each with a radiographic example, explanation, and key points to consider when evaluating each specific view. Excellent reference text!!

That is wat I actually still do after so many years in radiology. On the bookshelf where I report MSK images and saved a good few misses for me over the years.

Comprehensive

This third volume of Alfred's Premier Piano Course continues to fulfill my expectations. It is extremely well organized and incorporates many things I have wanted to find in one series like intervalic reading, early presentation of Bass clef recognition, immediate use within a musical context of every new rhythmic idea, one or two measure technical previews that really make their point, and even some theory presentation that is then applied to the next piece with minimal but pointed drill. There is a separate Theory book that goes with the series.

The pieces are short and attractive and include familiar songs and other selections in various styles. I would use an adjunct Sight Reading book, but this volume itself could be used as a refresher book and sight reading supplement on its own.

In the third theological millennium, more attention to the content and structure of the classical Eucharistic Prayers of both East and West will result in a Catholic systematic theology of eucharistic sacrifice that is not only truer to its biblical and patristic foundations but also -- of ecumenical import -- closer to some of the theological insights of the Protestant Reformers.These highlights of The Eucharist in the West illustrate the great value of this posthumous work. Conceptually complete, but in only rough draft form at the time of Kilmartin's death, it has been edited and prepared for publication by Robert J. Daly, S.J.Chapter one describes the characteristics of the eucharistic theology of the Western Latin Fathers. Chapter two identifies the more important orientations and developments of the Catholic tradition from early medieval Scholasticism up to the first part of the twelfth century. Chapter three singles out the special contribution of early Scholasticism to Latin eucharistic theology Chapter four functions as a bridge from early Scholasticism to high Scholasticism by outlining the general approach to a synthetic theology of the Eucharist which was obtained at the beginning ofthe thirteenth century. Chapter five treats eucharistic theology from high Scholasticism to the Council of Trent. Chapter six summarizes the dogmatic teaching of the Council of Trent. This is followed in Chapter seven, by a treatment of salient features of post-Tridentine eucharistic theology. Chapter eight includes an analysis of the practice and theology of Mass stipends. Chapter nine includes a detailed analysis of Aquinas's theology of the eucharistic sacrifice. I'll slide this one up to four stars. . .

. . .due to the circumstances under which it was written. Fr. Edward J. Kilmartin, SJ died before this, his magnum opus was complete. His notes were left on his computer, and one of his students provided the final editing and publishing work.
This results in a text which is extremely detailed in places, and extremely sketchy in others, apparently where Fr. Kilmartin was unable to "flesh out" the material. Some chapters were complete -- some were more outlines.
Nevertheless, this book is a wonderful discussion of both the history and the theology of the Eucharist throughout the course of Western Christian history. The medieval Eucharistic controversies are covered in detail, as are the issues surrounding the Eucharistic questions at the time of the Reformation and the Council of Trent.
Kilmartin is noteworthy here for his insistance that the task of the Church in the Third Millenium is to provide a theology of the Eucharist which is theologically sound, biblical, historic, and at the same time meaningful and relevant.
While not necessarily agreeing with every point and emphasis, nevertheless, I highly recommend this book. It represents a clarion call to authentic thought scholarship -- and to the translation of such thought scholarship to the level of the man in the pew.

Great for Academic Study

I was a member of Dr. Daly's class at Boston College which first went through the pre-publication version of this manuscript. I found Kilmartin's work to be a valuable academic help to my work on a Master's Thesis on the Lord's Supper.

If you're doing research in the area of the Eucharist -- find this book if you can. Especially if you're looking into recent Roman Catholic trends in eucharistic thought.

WWII was the most destructive war in history and caused the greatest dislocation of cultural artifacts. Hundreds of thousands of items remain missing. The main burden fell to a few hundred men and women, curators and archivists, artists and art historians from 13 nations. Their task was to save and preserve what they could of Europe's great art, and they were called the Monuments Men. (Coincidentally or not, this book appears only briefly after Ilaria Dagnini Brey's The Venus Fixers: The Untold Story of the Allied Soldiers Who Saved Italy's Art During World War II, Reviews, June 1.) Edsel has presented their achievements in documentaries and photographs. He and Witter (coauthor of the bestselling Dewey) are no less successful here. Focusing on the organization's role in northwest Europe, they describe the Monuments Men from their initial mission to limit combat damage to structures and artifacts to their changed focus of locating missing items. Most had been stolen by the Nazis. In southern Germany alone, over a thousand caches emerged, containing everything from church bells to insect collections. The story is both engaging and inspiring. In the midst of a total war, armies systematically sought to mitigate cultural loss. (Sept. 3)

If you are patient, you will find the treasure in this book

If I had written this review when I was only 25% of the way through this book, I would have given it 2 stars. The beginning of the book can only be described as plodding and in my opinion was not very well constructed. However, I hung in there and the payoff came in the remainder of the book.

The book describes an overlooked group of men and women who served during WWII to save priceless buildings and works of arts in Europe. It also describes the internal conflicts of these folks who wondered, for example, if the German people deserved the return of their Nazi-stolen art. The efforts of these dedicated service-men and -women were, naturally enough, largely overshadowed by the inarguably more important discoveries at the end of WWII, such as the truths revealed by the liberation of the concentration camps. This book is thus a wonderful contribution to an overlooked history of the time.

The end of the book describes the discovery of hidden German repositories of art; the volume and quality of art found in these hiding places is absolutely staggering. I had the pleasure of seeing Michelangelo's flawless Madonna when I was in Bruges and was riveted by her WWII story, which was not described in any detail in the materials given out by the museums there.

In summary: stick with it. The book had some problems with flow, especially in the beginning, but the payoff of the middle and ending was worth it.

A story that we all should read

One of the most enjoyable aspects to the study of history is always finding new stories. Even when you think you know a lot about a field you find something new and enjoyable. That one of the many reasons that I enjoyed Monuments Men so much. Robert Edsel has provided us with a look at an area of World War II studies that has gone virtually unnoticed for nearly 70 years. The men and women of the MFAA (Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives) Division served an almost unknown, but incredibly valuable part in the war against the destructive evil of Nazism.

When Hitler's forces overran Europe they set about looting the national artistic treasures in a methodical manner. Priceless treasures were pillaged from the museums and galleries of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, and other European nations. All property belonging to Jews were taken. Hitler's dream was to create an enormous museum that would be the envy of the entire world. Instead he launched the most destructive war in history.

The allies were aware of the cultural heritage in the areas that they would be fighting. This is why the MFAA was created. The original MFAA officers were tasked with traveling into the war zones and identifying historic sites that needed to be preserved. The stories of what these men accomplished is truly amazing. Time after time they were able to save important buildings from being destroyed.

As the book progresses we see another dimension of their work. They began to investigate the Nazi looting. Their job shifted from simply protecting buildings from destruction to locating stolen works of art. At times the book resembles an action thriller story. The theft of priceless works of art. The heroic civilians who work undercover to spy on the Nazis. The small band of men rushing from place to place to save these priceless objects.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the subject, I enjoyed the writing, I enjoyed everything about it. Robert Edsel has done an excellent job of sharing this important story with us. Perhaps there is no greater evidence of the statement that those who do not study history are bound to repeat it. We never studied the important work of the Monuments Men. As a result the allies were not prepared when Iraq was invaded in 2003. The looting of those priceless antiquities could have been avoided by simply employing a group like the MFAA. Perhaps this book will help to raise awareness so that tragedies like the Iraq museum will not happen again.

Interesting Read

A few years ago, on a trip to St. Louis, Missouri and I toured their well-known art museum. I noted a number of paintings on loan by a Jewish family that stated the paintings were returned to the family by the Monument Men. I said to myself I need to read the book. Finally, I just did.

From 1939 to the end of World War II, the Nazis Army seized priceless paintings, sculptures, tapestries and other artworks from museum, palaces, cathedrals and private homes. The Nazi plundered everything and carted it off to Germany. The Allied Forces created a group called the MFAA (Monuments, Fine Art and Archives) Division. This group consisted of men and women who were curators, archivists, art historians and artist. Their job was to find and return the art to its owners.

The book is well written and researched. Edsel examined family letters and records, museum and church archives and even the Nazi archives. The book got off to a slow start but the ending was much more interesting. Sometimes it read like a detective story. I found the repetitiveness very annoying. I found the story interesting but the way the book was written just did not grab me as I felt it should. It is a hard thing to explain. I am only going to give this book a three rating instead of a four because the author never managed to obtain that something to make the book great. The book was 468 pages. I read the e-book on my Kindle app for my iPad.

A few mistakes, but overall good.

Other than the fact that this didn't come in until two weeks after it was supposed to, this is (for the most part) a very good book. It adapts the anime beautifully, covering up through, I believe, halfway through the second episode. Meaning that at that rate, we can expect a sixteen-volume series. However, Ryuko's name is misspelled on the back of the book twice as "Ryuki." Additionally, the translator is rather inconsistent in terms of elongating syllables. The "no" in "Honnouji" is elongated, but the "ryu" in "Ryuko" isn't, and neither is the "so" in "sen-i soshitsu." Furthermore, the term "kamui" is translated as "godrobe" exactly once. Every time it appears after the first time, it's "kamui."

Still, though, this is pretty darn good. The art is good and the battles are exciting and over-the-top, just like the anime. Buy this.

A Great Adaptgation of the Anime

I really enjoyed the anime of Kill la Kill so this manga had quite a bit to live up to. It did not disappoint. This manga really captures the tone and feel of the anime and was really fun to read. The art is great, in my opinion. I can't wait for the next book in line!

Perfect for Fans of the Anime

This manga adaptation of the Trigger anime series of the same name is well worth your time and money if you enjoyed the show. The drawing style is different from the anime, but certainly not bad. The characters (especially protagonist Ryuko) have some really great expressions throughout. A very faithful adaptation, the only possible complaint is that it's too short, but for the price here on Amazon, I'd say it's worth it.
