The first work in the series is Warner Arundell, the Adventures of a Creole, originally published in 1838. This was the first novel set at least partly in Trinidad and possibly the first Caribbean novel in English. This extremely well written novel provides a good read as it chronicles the adventures of Warner Arundell, a white Creole of British descent, born in Grenada and brought up in Antigua and Trinidad. After being defrauded by lawyers, he studies law in Venezuela and medicine in England, then goes to seek his fortune. After many adventures, he is reunited with the coloured branch of his family and his Venezuelan love. The originally published novel has been heavily annotated and the contextualized edition of the original text makes it useful to scholars. Lise Winer is Associate Professor in the Department of Second Language Education, McGill University, Canada. She is the author of Trinidad and Tobago: Varieties of English around the World 6, Dictionary of the English/Creole of Trinidad and Tobago, and articles on Caribbean language, literature and culture. Bridget Brereton is Deputy Principal and Professor of History, University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. Her major books include A History of Modern Trinidad, Race Relations in Colonial Trinidad, and Law, Justice and Empire. Rhonda Cobham is Professor of English and Black Studies, Amherst College, USA. She has edited special issues of Research in African Literatures and the Massachusetts Review as well as Watchers and Seekers: An Anthology of Writing by Black Women in Britain. Her essays on Caribbean and African authors and postcolonial theory have appeared in Callaloo, Transition, Research in African Literatures and several critical anthologies. Mary Rimmer is Professor of English, the University of New Brunswick-Fredericton, Canada. Inspiring

A true story of survival and courage. This was a quick and easy read. A lot of the story was repeated throughout the book which was probably the only thing I didn't like as it dragged on a bit. Overall it was inspiring.

A wonderfully kind and generous couple for adopting two homeless Indian children. Saroo was very fortunate in the kind people he came in contact with and he showed great perseverance in tracking down his original home. I would highly recommend this book.

I bought this book and I thought I was going to get a great book! The Title is deceiving. Im 44 and have been out of dating for 10 years but most of this stuff is already known. I guess Im pissed cause I spent alot of money on this book and its not worth it!

What is the right partner and what do they mean in my life? Such a simple question, but faith can be overlooked in finding the right person. Most books about finding the right partner often limit themselves only to nondenominational advice. By virtue of this, they fail to incorporate elements of spirituality and spiritual guidance which can have a critical impact on finding and keeping a relationship. This book takes you along a path looking into how faith can direct our search and how that guidance translates into a deeper relationship.

This book should not be limited to just the people of faith, as its contents touch on so much more than that. Compassion. Inner strength. Wisdom. All things that anyone could use more of in finding a significant other. With the pressures of modernity and commercialism at every side dictating choices, looking back into ourselves to find our inner strengths and vulnerabilities, our character, and even our faith in finding a mate is a compelling reason to read this book. It turned out to be very insightful and opened my eyes to a lot.
It also helped me to see that there is nothing wrong with respectfully walking away from a relationship when there is no compatibility.
God's way of intentional dating and relationships is the way to go!

Great nostalgic book to relive the era. A great bargain to boot

Was surprise when I was looking for this book on Amazon after seeing it in a mailing I got from a book club. It was about $15 less than the mailed offer. Book was in great new condition and was received less than a week after ordering. Was a great trip down memory lane for a person who was around in the 50s'. Found a lot of memories that I had forgotten. Also a good reference for younger persons to see what life was like then.

Nice little book
By kid at heart
This book is published by the folks at Reminisce Magazine, to which I have subscribed for years. It's much better than reading a "history" book because I feel like it's "living history" written by the people that experienced the era. The 50's represent a time (in my mind) when America was the true world's leader and on top of it all.

The book is sectioned with different areas of music, fads, clothes, etc., and even has a little space in each chapter to write down your own memories should you choose to do so.

I'm in the process of reading this book and have enjoyed reading it. It's a nice light read before bed.

I'm probably prejudiced because my sister & I are in this book. I submitted some pictures & a little article, mainly for my Mom. I was quite surprised that they used all of the pictures that I sent.
It's a very nice book & it really does stir some memories that you've long forgotten.

The Only Way to Build a Better Body

I sought more information on High Intensity training after reading a debate of volume training vs. High Intensity by Mike Mentzer and Dr. Stone in All Natural Muscular Development Magazine. Prior to reading the article I had not heard of High Intensity training. After reading the article I realized that I had no basic principles upon which I was building my training program. I would read an article in Flex and follow that, then another in MM2K and follow that; some routines produced results and some did not. I purchased the tape series and listened several times to each tape. I was apprehensive about trying the program because I too suffered from the notion that if I was not training 4 days a week for two hours I would lose my hard earned gains. Finally, I decided to follow the program and follow it exactly. I decided that even if the training program was wrong, I was better off having a rational basis for what I was doing and why I was doing it, then continuing to follow the next magazine article. The program presented also made a lot of sense. The results were nothing short of spectacular. For a 41 year old gu y I am very impressed. The information presented on the tapes is clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend this tape series to anyone who is serious about building a better body. Like me, it may also help you the think more critically about many other aspects of your life. Thanks Mike

Needed: less philosophy, more fitness. Otherwise, GREAT!

Mentzer's approach to strength building is exactly what we need - a true plan that really works! I've used this protocal now for almost 3 months and the results are fantastic. I am 52 and I have become more muscular now than ever in my life. What a relief to find out that you don't have to be a gym rat to achieve a physique that gets second looks.
A disappointment is the proportion of the tapes spent on philosophy. Only about half of the set concerns exercises and diet. I would have liked much more description of the exercises and why these particular routines were chosen. We are asked to have faith that they are the best. Incidently, having faith in what we are told is exactly what we are asked not to do in the philosophical Tape 1. I would describe the exercises in the sequencing chosen, however, as elegent. Only one suggestion from my experience - combine superslow cadence with High Intensity.
If you would like to build muscle, you won't find a more rational or efficient technique.

The oft-maligned and misunderstood Mentzer has created a masterpiece with these audiotapes, debunking those preaching the more-is-better nonsense. As for results, you will receive such if you follow the ideas contained inside. AMAZING.
