Long Overdue: An Instructive Classic

In 1914, the Tsar of Russia conferred upon the five finalists of the St. Petersburg tournament the title "Grandmaster," inaugurating a tradition of singling out those whose demonstrated ability stood out even among masters. Siegbert Tarrasch was one of those five, along with Lasker, Capablanca, Alekhine and Marshall. Though he was never able to overcome the supreme tactical genius of Lasker in their struggles for the World Championship, Tarrasch earned the respect of his peers with a string of brilliant tournament and match performances that made him a natural challenger and secured his place in history as a great player.

Yet Tarrasch's fame today rests more upon his pedagogic writings than on his tournament victories, for he bequeathed to us a volume of three hundred meticulously annotated games that served as the model for the post-war generation of rising stars. For three quarters of a century, this seminal volume -- hailed as "one of the monuments of our game" by GM Reuben Fine -- has been available only to those who could read it in the original German.

Sol Schwarz's translation of Three Hundred Chess Games is, therefore, a most welcome contribution to the history of chess, making this masterpiece available for the first time in English. And a very workmanlike job it is: the translation is generally excellent, only occasionally betraying a trace of the Teutonic original, and the value of the volume is enhanced by the clear and plentiful diagrams and meticulous indices. As an historical work alone it would deserve high praise.

But the book is of more than historical merit -- it is an abundantly instructive manual of chess praxis for any aspiring student. Tarrasch's annotations give a superb insight into the fundamental concepts of modern chess. Building on and in some cases modifying Steinitz's fundamental principles, Tarrasch is at his crusty best when stating, dogmatically and forcefully, the proper way to handle recurring pawn structures, pronouncing on the relative merits of open files and doubled pawns, or stressing the necessity for active play even at the cost of material.

To understand master games we mortals need a guide, even one whose evaluations are occasionally a shade more black and white than a modern grandmaster's might be. And the games in this collection are exceptionally valuable to students because the strategic themes and tactical interchanges lie, with the aid of Tarrasch's illuminating commentary, just within the grasp of a talented amateur. Those who quibble that Tarrasch's commentaries on his own pet defense to the Queen's Gambit (1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5!?) or the line of the French that bears his name (1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2) are overly rigid should note that he actually abandoned his advocacy of the latter (see the notes to game 287!) and that no lesser player than Kasparov himself got good results in his youth with the former. Indeed, if the talented amateur absorbs the level of strategic understanding and tactical insight offered here in Tarrasch's pithy precepts, he will have time enough to refine that understanding -- for having done so, he will stand at the threshold of mastery himself.

About time! A historic milestone in chess literature.

Siegbert Tarrasch won a string of tournament victories in the early 1890s, making him arguably the best player in the world. But he passed up the opportunity to play the aging Steinitz (against whom he had +3-0) for the world title. So Lasker won the title instead in 1895, and forever after put Tarrasch in the shade, although he was still in the world's top five for another 20 years.
Tarrasch was also a great chess teacher. However, his writings can be very dogmatic, and his comments on some opening seem rather humourous in their naivety to modern masters. His writings seemed designed to make chess seem simpler and more rule-based than it really is. IM John Watson's brilliant book _Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy_ goes into this in far more detail.
It's very obvious that chess has progressed immensely in 100 years. So while this book is very instructive, it must be read with some caution. But it is a very important classic, that it's a pity that it hasn't been part of the learning English-speaking player's reading list until now. On the other hand, it was translated into Russian at least 12 years ago, since I gladly purchased a copy when I was there in 1988 despite my very limited Russian.
And it must be said that he was not nearly so dogmatic in his play as in his writings. There are a number of examples of almost Nimzovitchian ideas.
One instructive moment is his analysis of his victory on the Black side of the Advance French against Paulsen. After the standard moves 1 e4 e6 2 d4 d5 3 e5 c5 4 c3 Nc6 5 Nf3 Qb6 6 Bd3, Tarrasch gives his next move 6 ... cxd4 an exclamation mark, and points out that 6 ... Bd7 allows 7 dxc5. Yet almost everyone, even Watson, thinks that Tarrasch's great rival Nimzovitch was such a radical when he played this against Salwe many years later!

THE most up to date book on the fast-emerging field of neuroeconomics.

I bought this book through amazon.com on June 28, 2014, about 5 months ago [for $58.39]. It is everything its team of editors, the 43 authors of its 27 articles, and its multiple publishers say it is.

The book’s greatest strengths.

It is THE definitive, THE most up to date book on the fast-emerging field of neuroeconomics.

It is meaty. It contains a large number of excellent illustrations that expand the text surrounding it. They are full color, very detailed, summarized, and are annotated as to source. Very strong here.

After every chapter there is an exhaustive list of sources and references that is priceless for other researchers and students.
Since the field of neuroeconomics is so new, circa 1990 or so, it does not qualify for “discipline” status yet. These bibliographical lists contain many of the seminal sources for the primogenitors of neuroeconomics, economics, psychology, and biology. That list is not exhaustive, but it does help you understand the biases and gaps that guided the authors’ research and influenced their point of view. Very telling.

It is hefty in wright and content. It may cost the least per pound of any book on amazon.com. If you get through it completely, then you can then buy the other 100 or so books this one subsumes.

Now the greatest weaknesses. However, you should be forewarned about a few attributes that you have to adjust to get full value from this book.

I bought it to read it for a Coursera course I was taking. I quickly discovered it is not the type of book you “read” from beginning to end or even ever finish reading. It is a massive, dense, engaging read. I barely go through the introductory chapter on the History of Neuroeconomics and the 7 chapters in Part 1, The Fundamental Tools of Neuroeconomics -- the first 125 pages or so-- before the 8-week class was over. However, I learned much more from the book than from the course and it hooked me on wanting to read more.

Everyone in the list in the first paragraph is overly eager to point out repeatedly – and tellingly -- that the field of neuroeconomics is relatively new and rapidly growing confederation of researchers from the long established disciplines of economics, psychology, and biology, with a touch of anthropology thrown in.

This book’s greatest weakness is that it reads like an encyclopedia. Its greatest strength is that it IS an encyclopedia. The editors state that their goal was to produce a textbook. They overshot that moon. In order to be a textbook, it needs some learning tools, like review questions, suggested exercises, gedankenexperiments, etc.

This “textbook” relies solely on its organization as its major pedagogical tool. It is organized into 5 sections, each with 3 to 7 chapters. There is an order to this thread, but you only perceive it after you have read at least half the book. I found myself skipping around from chapter to chapter to pursue specific topics that interested me.

The Index was not as helpful as I needed it to be to facilitate my tracing the topics I pursued across the 27 chapters where the information I sought was buried. This is one area that could be greatly improved.

One wild tangent here. Has anyone noticed how useless most indices are these days? I think they are compiled by computers that search only for keywords that are incapable of spotting key ideas, key references, and themes in a complete sentence that provide the substance of most learning. I found myself writing in over 100 key ideas missing from the index. Pardon this rant on the publishing industry.

It is laden with scientific elitism, self-promotion, condescension, and “attitude,” terms of art, jargon, etc. You have to can get past the “academic attitude” that detracts from the simple grace of scholarship.

NET: If you are interested in neuroeconomics – for any reason – this is THE source you should “read” first, or have it handy for reference, or display it as a talisman or to anyone you encounter that you want to impress. Don’t’ worry about anyone calling your bluff, most will not be able to lift it.

Outstanding sourcebook

This is an outstanding sourcebook. Excellent set of chapter authors, and really well thought out division of chapter topics that complement and reinforce each other. Very up-to-date (except that in this field, by the time you are in print you are inevitably out-of-date already). I particularly liked that there was very little cheerleading about "how important this approach will be" -- just a focus on the developing science.

Excellent info but filled with typos

This could have been an excellent text book on this possibly growing subject but the vast number of typos, many that have caused me confusion as someone new to this subject, make the otherwise excellent info (dense and challenging) very difficult to understand. Did they mean dlFPC or dlPFC? Probably the later, but why did I need to spend time trying to figure this out.

Glimcher is far too good for this work.

Be prepared "to grasp mentally" Bible truths

This book is a somewhat updated version of an early 1980s book, United in Worship of the Only True God that Jehovah's Witnesses used as a Bible study aid. It's organized topically with verses assigned to chapters dealing with the resurrection hope, God's Kingdom, baptism, practicing godly devotion at home, and understanding Jesus' role in the outworking of God's purpose. It always surprises me to see these for sale here, as they are available free of charge at any local Kingdom Hall (if they happen to be in stock).

A BRIEF "POPULAR" EXPOSITION BY THE WATCHTOWER

This 2002 publication of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) is of the 4"x6", 190-page paperback format they currenly favor for most books. It is very well-illustrated. With an initial pressing of 5,000,000 copies, it was intended for wide distribution.

Like many other recent Watchtower publications, it emphasizes less the distinctive doctrines of the WBTS, and uses language (e.g., little or no "Christendom") less offensive to traditional Christians.

Here are some quotations from the book, that often illustrate distinctive doctrines of the WBTS:

"Jesus Christ, and no human, is our leader." (Pg. 10)
"The 'New World Translation' is especially valuable in doing this because it consistently renders the Hebrew term 'nephesh' and the corresponding Greek word 'psyche' as 'soul.'" (Pg. 81)
"What did (Jesus) mean (in Revelation 1:18)? He was calling attention to his own experience. He too had died. But God did not leave him in Hades. On the third day, Jehovah personally raised him to spirit life and conferred immortality upon him." (Pg. 83)
"However, not all who have ever lived and died will be resurrected. Some committed sins for which no forgiveness is possible. Wisdom from a Dead White Guy.

Astonishingly enough feminists and snowflakes could learn something from this book, something called tolerance and perhaps compassion. Thoreau's observations on life and self-reflection are more profound and wiser than all the rant and cant blaring and whining on the media today. His observations on the racial situation concerning the pre- Civil War era are sad and disturbing. Disturbing in that there were slaves in Massachusetts as well in his time. Mainly what one should hopefully glean from this volume is to seek self -knowledge and to come to terms with one's self. Be honest and true to yourself before you dictate to society.

Walden (mobi version)

While plenty has been said about this book, this review is about the benefits of the Mobi edition of this book for Kindle. There are numerous versions of this book published for Kindle and it might be difficult to decide between them. I tried using the free version of Walden, but without a linked table of contents, referring to specific chapters and sections of the book was nearly impossible. The Mobi version has fantastic formatting and, best of all, a linked table of contents. It is more than worth the dollar for the table of contents alone.

Self Help At Its Best

This is one of the most influential books in American history. I picked it up for the first time in thirty years only to realize that Throreau's philosophy had long ago permeated my being. I remember being blown away by my first reading more than half a century ago, but with each immersion new depths are achieved.

Thoreau sought both authenticity and simplicity in his life. He never abandoned Concord and the real world but merely sought refuge at Walden to plumb the depths of his being. Serious introspection and brilliant writing show each of us the the way to our own core. Can we stand the examination? That is for each of us to determine.

The Transcendentalists may never have been able to define their philosphy, but what remains of it more than a century after the movement's passing can be summed up in Thoreau's always upbeat outlook of "...if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet success unexpected in common hours."

One cannot read Walden without gaining confidence in one's ability to change direction in life and optimism about the future. We do not have to live lives of conformity and quiet desparation. "In the long run men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, though they should fail immediately, they had better aim at something high."

There has never been a book that better expresses American optimism, and there is no reason for us to lose confidence now. Simplify and be as close to authentic as you can be and all will turn out well. Oh, and while you're at it question authority.

If there could be a six star book, this would be my candidate.

The breeze rustled through the aspens, sending golden leaves whirling around him as Jordan Cardwell walked up the hill to the cemetery. He wore a straw Western hat he'd found on a peg by the back door of the ranch house.

He hadn't worn a cowboy hat since he'd left Montana twenty years ago, but this one kept his face from burning. It was so much easier to get sunburned at this high altitude than it was in New York City.

It was hot out and yet he could feel the promise of winter hiding at the edge of the fall day. Only the memory of summer remained in the Gallatin River Canyon. Cold nightly temperatures had turned the aspens to glittering shades of gold and orange against the dark green of the pines.

Below him he could hear the rushing water of the Gallatin as the river cut a deep winding course through the canyon. Across the river, sheer granite cliffs rose up to where the sun hung in a faded blue big Montana sky.

As he walked, the scent of crushed dry leaves beneath his soles sent up the remembered smell of other autumns. He knew this land. As hard as he'd tried to escape it, this place was branded on him, this life as familiar as his own heartbeat—even after all these years.

He thought of all the winters he'd spent in this canyon listening to the ice crack on the river, feeling the bite of snow as it blew off a pine bough to sting his face, breathing in a bone-deep cold that made his head ache.

He'd done his time here, he thought as he turned his face up to the last of the day's warmth before the sun disappeared behind the cliffs. Soon the aspens would be bare, the limbs dark against a winter-washed pale frosty sky. The water in the horse troughs would begin to freeze and so would the pooling eddies along the edge of the river. The cold air in the shade of the pines was a warning of what was to come, he thought as he reached the wrought-iron cemetery gate.

The gate groaned as he shoved it open. He hesitated. What was he doing here? Nearby the breeze sighed in the tops of the towering pines, drawing his attention to the dense stand. He didn't remember them being so tall. Or so dark and thick. As he watched the boughs sway, he told himself to make this quick. He didn't want to get caught here.

Even though it was a family cemetery, he didn't feel welcome here anymore. His own fault, but still, it could get messy if anyone from his family caught him on the ranch. He didn't plan to stick around long enough to see any of them. It was best that way, he told himself as he stepped through the gate into the small cemetery.

He'd never liked graveyards. Nor did it give him any comfort to know that more than a dozen remains of their relatives were interred here. He took no satisfaction in the long lineage of the Justice family, let alone the Cardwell one, in this canyon—unlike his sister.

Dana found strength in knowing that their ancestors had been mule-headed ranchers who'd weathered everything Montana had thrown at them to stay on this ranch. They'd settled this land along a stretch of the Gallatin, a crystal clear trout stream that ran over a hundred miles from Yellowstone Park to the Missouri River.

The narrow canyon got little sunlight each day. In the winter it was an icebox of frost and snow. Getting up to feed the animals had been pure hell. He'd never understood why any of them had stayed.

But they had, he thought as he surveyed the tombstones. They'd fought this land to remain here and now they would spend eternity in soil that had given them little in return for their labors.

A gust of wind rattled through the colorful aspen leaves and moaned in the high branches of the pines. Dead foliage floated like gold coins around him, showering the weather-bleached gravestones. He was reminded why he'd never liked coming up to this windblown hill. He found no peace among the dead. Nor had he come here today looking for it.

He moved quickly through the gravestones until he found the one stone that was newer than the others, only six years in the ground. The name on the tombstone read Mary Justice Cardwell.

"Hello, Mother," he said removing his hat as he felt all the conflicting emotions he'd had when she was alive. All the arguments came rushing back, making him sick at the memory. He hadn't been able to change her mind and now she was gone, leaving them all behind to struggle as a family without her.

He could almost hear their last argument whispered on the wind. "There is nothing keeping you here, let alone me," he'd argued. "Why are you fighting so hard to keep this place going? Can't you see that ranching is going to kill you?"

He recalled her smile, that gentle gleam in her eyes that infuriated him. "This land is what makes me happy, son. Someday you will realize that ranching is in our blood. You can fight it, but this isn't just your home. A part of your heart is here, as well."

"Like hell," he'd said. "Sell the ranch, Mother, before it's too late. If not for yourself and the rest of us, then for Dana. She's too much like you. She will spend her life fighting to keep this place. Don't do that to her."

"She'll keep this ranch for the day when you come back to help her run it."

"That's never going to happen, Mother."

Mary Justice Cardwell had smiled that knowing smile of hers. "Only time will tell, won't it?"

Jordan turned the hat brim nervously in his fingers as he looked down at his mother's grave and searched for the words to tell her how much he hated what she'd done to him. To all of them. But to his surprise he felt tears well in his eyes, his throat constricting on a gulf of emotion he hadn't anticipated.

A gust of wind bent the pine boughs and blew down to scatter dried leaves across the landscape. His skin rippled with goose bumps as he suddenly sensed someone watching him. His head came up, his gaze going to the darkness of the pines.

She was only a few yards away. He hadn't heard the woman on horseback approach and realized she must have been there the whole time, watching him.

She sat astride a large buckskin horse. Shadows played across her face from the swaying pine boughs. The breeze lifted the long dark hair that flowed like molten obsidian over her shoulders and halfway down her back.

There was something vaguely familiar about her. But if he'd known her years before when this was home, he couldn't place her now. He'd been gone too long from Montana.

And yet a memory tugged at him. His gaze settled on her face again, the wide-set green eyes, that piercing look that seemed to cut right to his soul.

With a curse, he knew where he'd seen her before—and why she was looking at him the way she was. A shudder moved through him as if someone had just walked over his grave.

Liza Turner had watched the man slog up the hill, his footsteps slow, his head down, as if he were going to a funeral. So she hadn't been surprised when he'd pushed open the gate to the cemetery and stepped in.

At first, after reining her horse in under the pines, she'd been mildly curious. She loved this spot, loved looking across the canyon as she rode through the groves of aspens and pines. It was always cool in the trees. She liked listening to the river flowing emerald-green below her on the hillside and taking a moment to search the granite cliffs on the other side for mountain sheep.

She hadn't expected to see anyone on her ride this morning. When she'd driven into the ranch for her usual trek, she'd seen the Cardwell Ranch pickup leaving and remembered that Hud was taking Dana into Bozeman today for her doctor's appointment. They were leaving the kids with Dana's best friend and former business partner, Hilde, at Needles and Pins, the local fabric store.

The only other person on the ranch was the aging ranch manager, Warren Fitzpatrick. Warren would be watching Let's Make a Deal at his cabin this time of the morning.

So Liza had been curious and a bit leery when she'd first laid eyes on the stranger in the Western straw hat. As far as she knew, no one else should have been on the ranch today. So who was this tall, broad-shouldered cowboy?

Dana had often talked about hiring some help since Warren was getting up in years and she had her hands full with a four- and five-year-old, not to mention now being pregnant with twins.

But if this man was the new hired hand, why would he be interested in the Justice-Cardwell family cemetery? She felt the skin on the back of her neck prickle. There was something about this cowboy… His face had been in shadow from the brim of his hat. When he'd stopped at one of the graves and had taken his hat off, head bowed, she still hadn't been able to see more than his profile from where she sat astride her horse.

Shifting in the saddle, she'd tried to get a better look. He must have heard the creak of leather or sensed her presence. His head came up, his gaze darting right to the spot where she sat. He looked startled at first, then confused as if he was trying to place her.

She blinked, not sure she could trust her eyes. Jordan Cardwell?

He looked completely different from the arrogant man in the expensive three-piece suit she'd crossed paths with six years ago. He wore jeans, a button-up shirt and work boots. He looked tanned and stronger as if he'd been doing manual labor. There was only a hint of the earlier arrogance in his expression, making him more handsome than she remembered.

She saw the exact moment when he recognized her. Bitterness burned in his dark gaze as a small resentful smile tugged at his lips.

Oh, yes, it was Jordan Cardwell all right, she thought, wondering what had made her think he was handsome just moments before or—even harder to believe, that he might have changed.

Six years ago he'd been the number one suspect in a murder as well as a suspect in an attempted murder. Liza had been the deputy who'd taken his fingerprints.

She wondered now what he was doing not only back in the canyon, but also on the ranch he and his siblings had fought so hard to take from their sister Dana.

Dana Savage lay back on the examining table, nervously picking at a fingernail. "I can't remember the last time I saw my feet," she said with a groan.

Dr. Pamela Burr laughed. "This might feel a little cold."

Dana tried not to flinch as the doctor applied clear jelly to her huge stomach. She closed her eyes and waited until she heard the heartbeats before she opened them again. "So everything is okay?"

"Your babies appear to be doing fine. Don't you want to look?"

Dana didn't look at the monitor. "You know Hud. He's determined to be surprised. Just like the last two. So I don't dare look." She shot a glance at her husband.

He stood next to her, his gaze on her, not the screen. He smiled, but she could see he was worried.

The doctor shut off the machine. "As for the spotting…"

Dana felt her heart drop as she saw the concern in Dr. Burr's expression.

"I'm going to have to insist on bed rest for these last weeks," she said. "Let's give these babies the best start we can by leaving them where they are for now." She looked to Hud.

"You can count on me," he said. "It's Dana you need to convince."

Dana sat up and laid her hands over her extended stomach. She felt the twins moving around in the cramped space. Poor babies. "Okay."

"You understand what bed rest means?" the doctor asked. "No ranch business, no getting up except to shower and use the bathroom. You're going to need help with Hank and Mary."

That was putting it mildly when you had a four- and five-year-old who were as wild as the canyon where they lived.

"I'm sure Hud—"

"You'll need more than his help." The doctor pressed a piece of paper into her hand. "These are several women you might call that I've used before."

Dana didn't like the idea of bringing in a stranger to take care of Hud and the kids, but the babies kicked and she nodded.

"Doc said I was going to have to watch you like a hawk," Hud told her on the way home. Apparently while she was getting dressed, Dr. Burr had been bending his ear, down the hall in her office. "You always try to do too much. With the kids, the ranch, me—"

"I'll be good."

He gave her a disbelieving look.

"Marshal, would you like a sworn affidavit?"

He grinned over at her. "Actually, I'm thinking about handcuffing you to the bed. I reckon it will be the only way I can keep you down for a day let alone weeks."

Dana groaned as she realized how hard it was going to be to stay in bed. "What about Hank and Mary? They won't understand why their mommy can't be up and around, let alone outside with them and their animals." Both of them had their own horses and loved to ride.

"I've already put in for a leave. Liza can handle things. Anyway, it's in between resort seasons so it's quiet."

September through the middle of November was slow around Big Sky with the summer tourists gone and ski season still at least a month away.

Dana knew October was probably a better time than any other for her husband to be off work. That wasn't the problem. "Hud, I hate to see you have to babysit me and the kids."

"It's not babysitting when it's your wife and kids, Dana."

"You know what I mean. There are the kids and the ranch—"

"Honey, you've been trying to do it all for too long."

She had been juggling a lot of balls for some time now, but Hud always helped on the weekends. Their ranch manager, Warren Fitzpatrick, was getting up in years so he had really slowed down. But Warren was a fixture around the ranch, one she couldn't afford to replace. More than anything, she loved the hands-on part of ranching so she spent as much time as she could working the land.

When she'd found out she was pregnant this time she'd been delighted, but a little worried how she was going to handle another child right now.

Then the doctor had told her she was having twins. Twins? Seriously?

Great book by B.J. Daniels. I love her cowboy series no matter which one it is.
She is a great author and her books always hold my interest. I love the feelings I get from them like I at home with the people in the stories.
I can't say I've ever been disappointed in her books. I've read lots of her work and it's great! Will read more in the future for sure.

This is a new author for me and I liked the family story line. It is trilogy of six stories. It is a small book but keeps you in story the whole book. Choose the rating because of the book kept me interested. I usually trade books with other people and they will like this author and trilogy series.

Don McCauley has coached Olympic Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Throwing, and Strength and Conditioning with several sports, for almost thirty years. In that time he has produced athletes that have competed at the national and international level, including the Olympics.
He has competed in the sports of Track&Field as a middle distance runner, Road Running, Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. He is most proud of his best 10-mile race time of 59:32.
Don graduated from the University of Rhode Island, is a C.S.C.S., a Level 1 Track & Field Coach and is certified by CrossFit and Cross- Fit for Kids. He presently works for Performance Initiatives as the Coach of the Coastal Empire Weightlifting team and owns a CrossFit box in Savannah, Georgia.
He is on the Ethics Committee of the USAW (Olympic Weightlifting NGB) and has a long-standing teaching relationship with many athletes in that sport. He is active in hosting weightlifting clinics and camps for athletes and coaches at the Performance Initiatives gym.

Don McCauley is awesome. This book is great

Don McCauley is awesome. This book is great, however it looks like a fifth grader photocopied & bound it. But I didn't buy the book for my coffee table. This has wonderful concepts, drills, and has significantly improved my coaching of young athletes and Crossfit athletes. It has also helped me correct many technique flaws I had/have, which have helped me stay injury free.

Some of his drills are on youtube, so check those out. However, they are short videos, and more of a companion to the book. On his website there is a DVD of the drills if you would prefer to go that route.

This is a self published book and an editing disaster. Coach McCauley tries to address the book to three different groups; athletes, parents of athletes and coaches. As a result it has a funny road trip theme that doesn't work well.

The actual Olympic lifting drills and teachings are very good. It is much better then the standard USAW or CrossFit method.

This book is meant to be sold with an accompanying DVD to demonstrate the drills. Amazon does not offer the book & DVD package. You can find it on Pendlay.com.

Would love to see Coach McCauley rewrite this book with a good professional editor. The DVD should be redone with a good video editor and more material. I think it would be very valuable for coaches training athletes new to Olympic lifting.

In its current format only a knowledge hungry coach will wade through the bad editing to get to the buried treasure.
