This book is full of fun lateral thinking puzzles, some actually based on history, some gruesome, and both quick and easy puzzles as well as hard ones. There are clues included, so you can help people along without giving away the answer. It's the best money I've spent if a party you're having starts to get a little boring. Not to mention the method of thought required to solve the puzzles will help you in every day life.

This book has many clever and interesting ideas, puzzles, and exercises to sharpen your thinking. The solution for some of the puzzles or questions doesn't make much sense, but it does make you aware of how to think "out of the box". Not every answer can be reached through logic, and learning that is good training for accepting and solving life's challenges. I bought this book first for a 12 year old child who is great at math but not crazy about reading, and I thought, this book is so much fun, he might just get into reading it. And then I bought a second copy for myself because i liked it so much.

Slodovnick’s quiet story, first published in Montreal as La carie (2009), emphasizes Marissa’s na�vet� and how different the city experience can be for haves and have-nots. Gauthier’s mixed-media illustrations are well suited to the thoughtful text; the city is portrayed mostly in gray tones, with focal characters colored for emphasis. Although the text acknowledges that Marissa’s gift won’t fix this problem (for starters, the man has no pillow), it’s sure to spark discussion. Preschool-Grade 2. --Kay Weisman

Marissa has learned the hard way that eating lots of candy entails tradeoffs: she enjoys the sweets, but now she has a toothache. While walking to the dentist's office with her mom through the city streets, Marissa observes a homeless man sitting on the sidewalk grate to keep warm, with an open shoe box in front of him containing a few coins. Most people pass the man without stopping, and one man in a hurry even steps over him. Marissa wants to help but does not know how.

Aimed toward young readers, this picture book goes far beyond a simple "lost tooth" story to broach the difficult topic of homelessness. Teachers and parents can use the book to spark discussions about some of the reasons why people become homeless and why homelessness should not rob people of their identities.

Biohazard in a Cup

A girl goes to the dentist and needs a tooth pulled because she ate too many sweets. There's no lesson on proper dental care here. Instead, there's a nebulous lesson on "compassion" when the girl drops her tooth in a beggar's cup. As if homeless people are not exposed to enough germs! What if this happened in real life? It would be extremely insulting to a homeless person who knows that the tooth fairy only gives money to the rightful owner for his/her teeth. This story would have had more of a "lesson" if the girl took her actual tooth fairy money and out it in the beggar's cup.

About the Author
Bennett L. Schwartz got his Ph.D. in 1993 from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.� Since then he has been� at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, where he is currently Professor of Psychology and a Fellow of the Honors College.� He is author or editor of 8 books as well as over 50 journal articles and chapters.� His textbook,� Memory:� Foundations and Applications, 2nd edition (Sage Publications) was published in 2014. At FIU, he� has won several teach awards and currently teaches courses in Memory,Cognition and Sensation and Perception.� His main research area is metacognition, but he has also conducted research in areas as diverse as visual percepton to evolutionary psychology� to the language of thought to memory in non-human primates.� Schwartz also serves on the editorial board of several journals and recently served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Applied Research in Memory And Cognition.

John H. Krantz received his psychology PhD from the University of Florida. After graduate school he worked in industry at Honeywell on visual factors related to cockpit displays. In 1990, he returned to academia taking a position at Hanover College.� John has done extensive research in vision, human factors, computers in psychology, and the use of the web as a medium for psychological research. He has been Program Chair and President of the Society for Computers in Psychology and Editor of the journal, Behavior Research Methods.� John was the first to develop Web experiments in psychological science and lead the way on techniques for sending multimedia via the Web. He has served as a faculty associate for The Psychology Place developing interactive learning activities and created psychology’s first global web site for the Association for Psychological Science (APS). In addition, he is an author on both the Cognitive Toolkit and PsychSim 6. John is well known for his widely used online psychological experiments related to sensation, perception and cognition. His current research is focused on using the web for psychological research and modeling the visual system.

wide variety of texts

I first got this book for a literature course in college. It has become a staple in my diet as I now teach this beautiful language. There is a wide variety of readings, which progress in skill level from basic to advanced. In each chapter there are grammar excersises and lessons as well as reading comprehension questions. I have used these stories with my native speakers as well as my students who are just learning Spanish as their second language. It's wonderful to be able to present authentic text in a manner which is easily accessible.
