About the Author
Marc André Meyers, Distinguished Professor at the University of California, San Diego, is the author or co-author of three other books and approximately 400 papers. The recipient of important awards from Europe (Humboldt Senior Scientist Award and J. S. Rinehart Award), China (Lee Hsun Lecture Award; Visiting Professor, Chinese Academy of Sciences) and the US (Acta Materialia Materials and Society Award, TMS Educator Award, SMD/TMS Distinguished Scientist and Distinguished Service Awards, ASM Albert Sauveur Award, ASM Albert Easton White Award), he is a fellow of TMS, APS and ASM, and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is also the author of three fiction novels.

Po-Yu Chen, Assistant Professor of the Materials Science and Engineering Department at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego. His current research is in the fields of biological (natural) materials, bio-inspired/biomimetic materials, biomedical materials, and green and energy-related materials. He is the author and co-author of several highly-cited review articles in biological and bio-inspired materials. A member of the TMS Biomaterials Committee, he organized several bio-related symposiums and workshops in international conferences. He is the recipient of Materials Science and Engineering C Young Researcher Award and ASME Emerging Researchers in Biomedical Engineering in 2011 and received the Distinguished Young Researcher Career Award from Taiwan National Science Council.

This is a really interesting and inspiring book which has a very comprehensive contents. The authors describe a wide range of scientific research on biological materials from nature with a modern materials science approach, which opens a new door for us to learn from nature. Most parts in this book is quite easy to understand and it's perfect as a textbook for undergraduates or graduates who don't have much background on biology or materials science. I like the boxes in this book, which brought me a lot of cutting-edge information about the development of current biological materials and medical device design. Son of a white American mother and of a black Kenyan father whom he never knew, Obama grew up mainly in Hawaii. After college, he worked for three years as a community organizer on Chicago's South Side. Then, finally, he went to Kenya, to find the world of his dead father, his "authentic" self. Caveat Emptor - Dreams From My Father

Be careful what you order. There are two editions of this book; the 1995 edition and the revised 2004 edition. Note that the 2nd edition lists the 1995 printing first, but that not be what you get. I spent $115 hoping to get the rare, first edition, which supposedly has photos and different text. Instead, I got a hardcover version of the 2004 revised printing. Since the 1995 book was published when Obama was still a relative nobody it stands to reason the first edition had a limited circulation. Don't order the book unless you can see a picture of the cover. If it looks like the 2004 paperback, then it's not the 1st edition.

Read all of the book and learned a lot about his lack of good Father attention. A lesson for any child without a parent around that you make your own decisions in life and your own future. He did have a wild side in his teen years and could have gone a different direction entirely. Applaud people of Hawaii that saw a young man with future potential and invested in him. Credit also to his grandparents for assisting in his raising. No matter what so many say I think he has been a good president at large and has the demeanor and temperament and intelligence to be our American President. Thank You Barack. :-)

Simply love this book

Simply love this book! I have a high admiration for our current President, Obama and reading about his childhood, his struggles as a color child in mix family, his missing father and the impact his parents marriage had on the way he perceives is very interesting. I can definitely understand better his life now, and why he got so far and became the most important man in the world!

Indispensible in the metabolic clinic

A rapid "at a glance" reference manual devoted to inherited metabolic diseases, I consult this book several times a week as part of my clinical work. The book is arranged by metabolic pathway and with descriptions of metabolic diseases and their respective laboratory findings. The pathways themselves are defined but not in so much detail to overwhelm the general pediatric or neurology resident rotating through metabolic disease.

This book is small and easily fits in your pockets - for this reason I'm not sure why the book has a $73 price tag attached to it.
